Post-Growth Meetup Tartu: What is Degrowth?

As our societies are hit with one crisis after another, community and a safe space for discussions are becoming valuable more than ever. And while complex questions require deep discussions, we also should not forget to have a laugh and get to know likeminded people.

Following a few fun and meaningful gatherings in Tallinn, Degrowth Estonia is also starting Post-Growth Gatherings in Tartu.

We are planning gatherings on different hotly debated themes, such as AI, ecosocialism, population shrinking, inequality, deforestation, democratic economy, defence, etc.

Every gathering’s gonna have a short presentation, followed by a Q&A or a workshop, plus, of course, plenty of time for drinks and discussions.

Our opening gathering on the 4th of Nov will be Post-Growth and Degrowth: A Response to Problems of Economic Growth, presented by Maiko Mathiesen.

Why is economic growth unsustainable and a major root cause to the polycrisis? Why is it so difficult to move away from it? What are the alternatives? Come and hear about how Tasaarengu Eesti (Degrowth Estonia) has been tackling these questions for some years now, and what bottlenecks are we facing.

FOOD: Sandwiches can be purchased from the bar and pizza can be brought in from the next door vendor Metsik Pizza.

The event will be held in English and is free. We welcome anyone interested in the topic, especially internationals.
